Australia-Taiwan Relations: Navigating Future Paths after IPAC 2024 and the Australian Senate Motion on UN Resolution 2758

Following the July 2024 Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) conference, the Australian Senate passed a historic Urgency Motion in August, marking the first time the Australian Parliament officially rejected Beijing’s interpretation of United Nations Resolution 2758, which claims “Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.” This motion underscores Australia’s increasing focus on Taiwan and its significance in shaping future bilateral relations.
